Disney's Magic Kingdom

The Crowds

The crowds at Magic Kingdom can be very intense.  Its mainly families with small children often melting down, capturing precious moments, or just delighted in taking in their environment.  There is a backdrop of ornate, nostalgic architecture, Disney staff in period costumes, and some spectacle (e.g. Mickey or a princess etc.) Sometimes it is sweet, funny; sometimes just over-the-top.

A couple watching the crowds together.

The Families/The Moms

I found myself drawing other Moms, some sweet, some exasperated.  It was a reflection on my own thoughts about The Mom Role, as an insider.

The Parades

Parades are among the top attractions of Disney's Magic Kingdom.  I find them very old-timey and quaint, having entertained people well before the internet, the television and even radio.   But they can also be very loud, aggressive and scary.

I found myself getting very emotional while watching them.   They brought up many dreams, fantasies and even nightmares.  For me they were very surreal.  I tried to depict them in various drawings and in various styles, below.

In this image, I looked very closely at Miro.
